Birding on the Island of Texel

Festival supports House Martins on Texel in 2018

House Martins still breed in a number of places on Texel. During the summer, the species can be seen regularly on the island as can their characteristic mud nests under the eaves of houses. Nevertheless, House Martins are having a difficult time and for this reason the species has been chosen as the Dutch ‘species of the year 2018’ by Sovon and BirdLife Netherlands.

Texel Big Day 2019 registration now open

It is now possible for teams to register for the Texel Big Day on 11 May 2019.  2017, the first Big Day to raise money for charity in the Netherlands was held. The third ever Texel Big Day will take in 2019, and aims to raise money to help some bird into the dunes on Texel. Join in this 24 hour bird race and help support birds on Texel.

Texel Big Day, the start of the Dutch National Bird Week

The Texel Big Day will form the start of the 2018 Dutch National Bird Week of BirdLife Netherlands. Running the 24 hours of Saturday 12 May 2018, the Texel Big Day will see teams of 3-4 birdwatchers cycling their way around Texel trying to record as many species as possible and raising money in the process.
