Dwaalgasten 2.0

This year the team Dwaalgasten has been updated: Dwaalgasten 2.0. This team, consisting of Christophe Reijman, Jeroen van Paridon and Joost Veeken, are not only aiming to better their personal record of 110 species, but also enjoy all the birds on the way. That’s a great target for the Texel Big Day!

I am Christophe Reijman, 36 years old and an art teacher from Haarlem. I have been a birdwatcher from a very young age and actually first became interested in birds on Texel. I have visited the island during the autumn holidays for many years. It was only last year that I was on the island during May, and what a great time that was; spring was in full flow and there were so many birds! I just had to come again this year.
Together with colleague Jeroen and fellow birdwatcher Joost, I will again participate in the Texel Big Day, and I’m already looking forward to it!  Last year we recorded 110 species, and we are keen to see if we can beat that record.

Jeroen van Paridon
Biology teacher
Jeroen van Paridon Team Dwaalgasten 2.0
I’m Jeroen, 27 years old and I work as a biology teacher in Castricum. It was through Christophe, a colleague from my school, that I’ve ended up in the team Dwaalgasten 2.0. I’m interested in amphibians and reptiles although through my study in biology and landscape ecology I started to get interested in birdwatching and birds (which are really just reptiles with feathers and wings… : p). Through activities such as the Texel Big Day, I try and increase my knowledge of birds as well as simply enjoying the beautiful nature that the Netherlands has to offer.

Joost Veeken
Construction sector and Biology teacher
Joost Veeken Team Dwaalgasten 2.0
I am Joost, 23 years old and currently working with my father in the construction sector. I graduated last year as a lecturer in Biology along with Jeroen. It was because of Jeroen that I’ve ended up in the team Dwaalgasten 2.0, which I’m really happy about as it fits perfectly with my focus for this year: to learn more about nature and birds. In addition, I plan to do wildlife monitoring as a volunteer.
I see this as an opportunity to increase my knowledge on birds as part of a fun team and of course enjoy nature and being outdoors.
